ALL ABOUT OUR RECITAL FEES
(This document elaborates on the Policies and Procedures Green Sheet which all families sign for
at the time of registration for classes.)

The highlight of the year at every dance studio is the annual Spring Recital, when the young dancers show what they’ve learned in a performance for parents, friends, and relatives. It’s usually a small affair held in a local school auditorium. But as we like to say, the Colby Center for Dance is “NOT just another neighborhood dance school.” We are moving to a new location this year, but our show will continue to feature a theatre, sound system, lights, and many extras far above the typical recital. Doing shows like ours is not cheap or easy, but we think a once-per-year celebration of your children’s hard work and progress deserves the very best! Here’s what everything costs and what you’ll get for your money:

RECITAL COSTUME PAYMENT DUE WITH NOVEMBER TUITION

All Recreational and Young Dancer Combo Classes will perform one routine in one of the shows at our awesome Annual Recital Day at Starlight Theatre on Sunday June 10, 2007. Each family may choose whether or not to participate. If a dancer is enrolled in more then one class, the dancer may choose to participate in just one or all classes. In past years, close to 98% have chosen to participate and have performed with all of their classes.

If you choose to participate in Recital, your Costume fee for each class in which your child (children) is enrolled and will be participating is $84 including tights (plus tax) and is due November 1st. If you are new to dance, this probably seems very early but it is absolutely necessary so costumes can be ordered to “beat the rush” and we receive our costumes in plenty of time for photos, rehearsals, and the recital show itself! We spend many hours picking out the perfect costume for each class, work with the costume companies to get everything delivered on time, make any necessary alterations, and present your costume on a hanger with a plastic bag containing any accessories, hair and makeup instructions, and we even include the tights. Jennifer Colby Dancers and Junior Jennifer Colby Dancers do NOT pay Recital Costume Payments in November because they are billed separately for their competition costumes and they perform in these competition costumes at Recital.

Each student’s November Tuition Statement includes a Recital Costume Charge of $84 plus tax for each class. If we do not receive payment by November 10, we assume that you do not wish to participate in Recital and we deduct the charge(s) from your account at the end of the month. Costume fees are paid to the costume manufacturers at the time orders are placed in November and therefore must be non-refundable. After November 10, any costume orders will be billed @ a "special order" late rate of $109.00 (plus tax) but ONLY IF the particular costume manufacturer can accept the late orders.

RECITAL FAMILY PACKAGE FEE DUE MARCH 1ST (see WHAT’S INCLUDED IN THE RECITAL FAMILY PACKAGE FEE?)

As explained on the Green Sheet distributed at Registration in August, each FAMILY must also pay a single Recital Participation Fee of $84 plus tax on their March Tuition Statement which covers a Recital Music CD for home practice, a T-Shirt with the names of every Recital dancer, a 60+ page Recital Program, a Recital DVD mailed to your home in July, and a special souvenir recital gift for you to give your dancer(s), and a small amount towards Photo Day and Dress Rehearsal expenses. Families with more than one dancer who wish to order additional individual items are able to do so. T-Shirts are available at the desk and other items may be ordered beginning on Photo Day May 5th. This single $84 fee plus tax will be paid by every family with at least one dancer performing at least one dance at Recital, including families of Jennifer Colby Dancers and Junior Jennifer Colby Dancers. After March 10, a late fee of $25 will be applied each month until the fee is paid in full.

Tickets to the show are NOT included because our experience has been that some families only need one ticket while others buy as many as 15-20 tickets ... therefore we sell tickets separately.

Over the years, we have tried different approaches to offering the best possible recital experience at a reasonable cost and we have found that this approach works best for most families!
