FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT RECITAL

Q. What do I need to do to get my dancer ready for recital?
A. Read all the pages about Recital on this website and use the Recital Checklist to make sure you have not forgotten anything! Most important, come to class every week and come to dress rehearsal. Every year, the dancers who attend most perform the best! Please try to attend every class from now to Recital so your dancer and your whole class looks great on stage! Remember, one absent dancer hurts the progress of the entire class.

Q. When can I take my dancer's costume(s) home?
A. As soon as your account is "paid in full" for this dance year. The first day to take costumes home is Photo Day May 3rd and the last day to pick up costumes is Dress Rehearsal on June 6th. Unfortunately, if you don't have your account paid up and get your costume by the 6th, your dancer will be unable to participate in Recital.

Q. What else do I need besides the costume to get my dancer ready for dress rehearsal and recital?
A. Tights are included with your costume, and most dancers will use the same shoes they use in class at Recital. Attached to each costume will be a bag with reminders on shoes and shoe color, hair style, makeup, & "extra pieces" for each class.

Q. Tell me about Recital photos?
A. Photo Day is Saturday May 3rd at the Dance Studio. With careful organization, we manage to photograph every class for our Recital Program and every child individually ON TIME each year. All photos are taken that day ... there is no "make-up" day. PHOTO ORDERS ARE THEN HANDLED EXCLUSIVELY BY THE PHOTOGRAPHER, NOT THE STUDIO. For those who would like to purchase photos, more information about ordering photos will be distributed on Photo Day.

Q. I need to buy Recital Tickets. What do I do?
A. See our Recital Ticket Order Form, Seating Diagram, and Who Performs in Which Show? for details.

Q. When do I pick up my Recital Tickets?
A. All tickets ordered by Thursday May 1st will be available for pickup at the Studio beginning on Photo Day Saturday May 3rd. Tickets ordered after May 1 will be available at the studio one week after being ordered and paid for. Tickets not picked up at the studio may be picked up at Dress Rehearsal.

Q. When do I get the items covered by my Recital Family Fee?
A. T-Shirts and Music CDRs are distributed in class shortly after Spring Break. Your Recital Program and Recital Souvenir will be available when you arrive on Recital Day. Your Recital DVD will be mailed to you asap in July. If you need more than one t-shirt, we will have extras for sale at the desk. Starting on Photo Day, we will take orders for extra programs and Recital souvenirs and DVDs up to and including Recital Day (but NOT after Recital Day).

Q. When is Dress Rehearsal for my dancer?
A. THIS YEAR ALL DANCERS WILL REHEARSE AT BAHIA SHRINE LATE AFTERNOON TO EARLY EVENING ON FRIDAY JUNE 6, 2008 - A DETAILED SCHEDULE WILL BE POSTED BY MAY 1, 2008.

Q. What's my exact schedule for Recital Day at Starlight Theatre?
A. Timetable will be posted on May 1. Dancers arrive at the same time at the Performers Entrance for their Show and are released together at the same location after the show. There are several reasons for this - most important of which is the safety of the dancers followed by the need to keep the show moving to provide a great experience for the dancers and an entertaining performance for the audience. All dancers are checked in by name before each show and checked out by name to their parents after each show! Out of consideration for all dancers, families, and audience members, we do not release dancers during the show or during any brief intermission.

Q. When do you release the exact "order of performance."
A. Not until Recital Day. In the past, illness, injuries and family emergencies have caused us to adjust the order of performance at the last minute. Unfortunately, this has caused friends and relatives hoping to rush in for just a few minutes to see their dancer to miss the performance they wanted to see. Because of that experience, we no longer release a detailed order of performance in advance and we do not speculate on exactly what time a particular class will perform. We hope audience members will enjoy watching all the dancers rather than disturb the rest of the audience by arriving late or leaving early. This is a very imortant activity to our dancers and you can't really appreciate it without watching the whole show. The Afternoon Show with the Young Dancers Aged 3-6 will last no more than 75 minutes, and the Evening Show will be just 21/2 hours including intermission. The 5:30PM Show will include performance by all of our soloists in a dinner theatre atmosphere.

Q. What's going on before the show?
A. Parents and other audience members can eat, drink, look at the displays in the lobby, order additional DVDs, or just enjoy the pre-show music and pictures.

Q. What does my dancer do while backstage during the show?
A. Dancers stay backstage in assigned seats. The younger ones have coloring and other quiet activities. There are bathrooms and chaperones. For safety, security, space, and show reasons, only staff and dancers are allowed backstage.
