YOUR POSSESSIONS

Please bring all personal items (clothes, shoes, schoolwork, etc.) in a bag that closes securely. Loose items are liable to get lost or picked up by another child accidentally. Please label ALL personal items with child’s name in permanent ink to cut down on lost items. If your child misplaces a belonging, please check at desk for Lost & Found. We discard unlabelled items at the end of each month. We are NOT responsible for lost items ... do not bring expensive items to the studio!

ABOUT RECITAL and RECITAL COSTUME PAYMENT

All “Young Dancer” (Combo) and Recreational Classes will perform one routine at our awesome Annual Recital Shows. Each family may choose whether or not to participate. In the past, close to 98% have chosen to participate.

If you choose to participate in Recital, your Costume fee for each class in which your child (children) are enrolled will be $85 (includes tights) plus tax and is due with November tuition. Costume fees are paid to the costume manufacturer immediately and therefore must be non-refundable. Each student’s November Tuition Statement will include a Recital Costume Charge of $85 plus tax for each class. If we do not receive your payment by November 10, we will assume that you do not wish to participate in Recital and we will deduct the charge(s) from your account.

In the Spring, each FAMILY will be charged a single Recital Participation Fee of $85 plus tax on their March Tuition Statement which will cover a Recital Music CD for home practice, a T-Shirt with the names of every Recital dancer, our Recital Program, a Recital DVD-R of one show mailed to your home, and a special gift & card for your dancer! Extras may be purchased by families with 2 or more dancers.

DRESS CODE / STUDIO BEHAVIOR

• THE PARKING LOT AND THE OUTSIDE PORCH ARE NOT PLAYGROUNDS. Parents must monitor their children when they are outside of the studio including on the porch and parking lot. They should only be outside when coming to class or leaving class.
• No t-shirts, sweatshirts, shorts, pants, legwarmers or skirts are permitted in class because they hide technical flaws in dance that the teacher cannot correct when hidden. No school or street clothes.
• No two-piece outfits are permitted.
• Hair must be worn in a bun with the bangs secured off of the face for all ballet and pointe classes. Hair may be worn in a high ponytail for all other class provided it does not whip the face when turning.
• No jewelry may be worn in class except stud earrings .
• No gum, food or drinks are permitted in the classroom.

CLASS OBSERVATION

We’re sure you agree that the purpose of dance classes is to teach the students to dance, NOT to put on a show. Even the quietest observers do distract the students and sometimes make them self-conscious and shy about attempting new skills. Moreover, the age, type of construction, and physical configuration of our leased building make unobtrusive observation either impossible or prohibitively expensive. Therefore there is no observation in Studios 2 & 3, and only limited observation through the glass doors to Studio 1 where we schedule all of our “young dancer” students. WE WILL HAVE AN “OPEN CLASSROOM” CLASS OBSERVATION WEEK FOR ANY RECREATIONAL CLASSES WHICH MEET IN STUDIO 2 OR STUDIO 3 IN SEPTEMBER (MONDAY THE 10TH THROUGH SATURDAY THE 15TH).

ONLY COLBY CENTER STUDENTS IN CLASSES

Due to safety and insurance requirements, we cannot allow trial classes or permit students to “bring a friend” to class. In addition, no one (not even parents, friends, siblings) should ever be inside the classrooms except the teacher and dancers enrolled in the class. Dancers should NOT enter the room before the teacher. These policies minimize accidents and maximize time and attention for the tuition-paying dancers!

PLEASE DROP OFF & PICK UP PROMPTLY

We have a very small lobby so please drop off and pick up your children promptly before and after class. Also, siblings not participating in class must be accompanied by an adult at all times. If you are enrolled in the last class of the day, a late pickup fee of $25 is imposed if we have to wait more than 15 minutes with your child before we can close the studio.

COMMUNICATIONS

We will be sending out many notices with your children. We have a 24 hour answering machine at 407 - 599 - 5560. We also have fax service via 407 – 894 - 0542, and a web site at www.colbycenter.com. We use e-mail (www.colbycenterfordance@cfl.rr.com) every day. Our front desk is normally staffed during classes. Our mailing address is 540 S. Maitland Ave., Maitland, FL 32751.

ALL ABOUT THAT AWKWARD SUBJECT OF TUITION PAYMENTS

The Colby Center has an 11 month dance year with tuition the same each month regardless of the number of classes held in a particular month. Over the full year, each class has 42 sessions including recital dress rehearsal and recital. Most classes are one hour in length each week. Tuition is $47 monthly for the first one-hour class with discounts for students taking multiple hours. Any additional children in the same immediate family receive a 50% discount (for example, the first one-hour class for a second child would be $23.50 per month). The maximum tuition for a single student is $185 and for a single immediate family is $277.50 per month. A detailed Tuition Chart is posted in the lobby.

TUITION IS DUE THE FIRST OF EACH MONTH and is non-refundable. We accept payments made by cash, check, or money order. We do not accept credit cards so that we can keep tuition as low as possible. Tuition may be made by mail, through the mail slot in our door when the studio is closed, or placed in the Lobby Drop Box next to the door when the studio is open. We check the mail slot and drop box daily and time-stamp your payments. When paying in cash, it is your responsibility to obtain a receipt at the front desk. In case of cash discrepancies regarding cash payments, we will not be able to credit cash payments unless you have a receipt from us. Many customers who do their banking online have their bank automatically send payment each month. We charge an additional fee of $25 if your bank does not honor your check for any reason. After two refused checks, all payments must be made with cash or money order.

When you enroll in a class, you are paying us to hold a place in class for your student. There are no refunds or credits for missed classes. If you must miss a class, you may request that we arrange for you to attend another regularly scheduled class at the same level (if one is available) as a make-up. If the Colby Center cancels classes due to bad weather, etc., we will schedule a make-up class. Tuition is not per lesson or per week, and is not pro-rated for partial months if a student misses class. We do, however, pro-rate the first month’s tuition for new students who begin class in the middle of the month based on the number of lessons that particular class has in that particular month.

Unfortunately, in the past we had a big problem with late payments so we must impose a late fee of $25 to all bills no promptly paid each month. We hope we don’t have to charge a single late fee all year, but there will be no exceptions (including student absence) to this policy! We have learned form experience that a late fee of this amount and a “no exceptions” policy are unfortunate necessities.

WE DO PROVIDE A TEN DAY “GRACE PERIOD” BEFORE WE IMPOSE LATE FEES. However, unless your monthly tuition is received by the dates listed below, a late fee will automatically be billed to your account. An additional late fee will be charged each month until you are fully paid to date. Ten years of experience has taught us that we cannot make exceptions to this policy. Accounts more than two months in arrears will not be able to continue in classes. In no case will a student receive Recital costumes and participate in Recital unless their account is paid in full for the year including any outstanding late fees by Tuesday, June 10, 2008.

The table below is your annual notification of regular payments deadlines. We will ATTEMPT to notify you each month of your account balance by e-mail, but these attempts are just courtesy reminders and failure to receive an e-mail does not relieve you of the obligation to pay your tuition on time.
